Even if you are still a student you are already part of a network of more than 60,000 people. The NEOMA Alumni network is an unfailing aid in finding a job.

Why you should cultivate your network

Nowadays, one is more likely to find a job by using a network efficiently than by looking for an ad on dedicated websites.

However, there are basic rules to use a network efficiently that need to be respected.

Follow these tips to optimize the use of your network:

1.         Find a job

2.         Ask for advice, listen to a testimony

3.         Develop your professional activity

4.         Bring the NEOMA Alumni community to life by participating in Tribe and club activities

When to approach your network?

Timing

Do not wait until you are looking for a job to solicit your network! Creating a network takes time. Once the network has been created, it must be kept alive all the time by keeping in touch, organizing meetings...

Your career plan must be clearly defined, even if it is only an interview to hear a testimony or seek advice. Be careful not to waste your interlocutor’s time for which you should also thank them.

Be sure you can be available when you start your network activity (don't go on holiday for a month just after sending requests to your contact).

Immersion in the network

You can already join clubs and tribes for free by registering directly on the website.

You can request your login details from Elodie Fauvelet: elodie.fauvelet@neoma-alumni.fr

The Gathering of Tribes

The Gathering of Tribes is an opportunity for graduates to meet each other, maintain a sense of community, get together with friends, develop their network, discover the scope of NEOMA Alumni's activities and services, and build relationships with club leaders.

The leaders of each club are invited to run a booth at an evening event, during which a champagne cocktail dinner is served, where graduates can come and meet them and ask questions about the clubs' activities. This event is held once a year in Paris, usually at the end of September and can accommodate over 1,000 people.

NEOMA ALUMNI TEAM SUPPORT (NATS) respond to the following issues:

  • Create a real link between graduates and students (meetings, exchanges, communication, dialogues).
  • Promote the importance of the network and ways of using it: training and networking practice with a presentation of the association's activities and the tools available (graduates' website, online directory, membership of clubs and tribes, etc.).
  • Supplement the role of the TDCU to assist students in their choice of careers. Provide information on possible experiences with graduate experience.
  • To be a support and a representative of NEOMA ALUMNI on the Reims, Rouen and Paris campus (NATS).

Be a perfect networker:

Review your network: establish your address book

Personal network

  • the family circle: parents, brothers, cousins...
  • the close circle: friends, neighbors, your friends' family, your friends' friends' friends...
  • "proximity" relationships: local shopkeepers, pharmacists, doctors...

Professional network

  • the people you met during your studies: former students, classmates, professors...
  • the individuals you meet during your professional career: suppliers, subcontractors, customers, partners, former colleagues, trainees...

Non-professional network

  • colleagues from sports, cultural, artistic, scientific activities....
  • various associations and organizations.

Social networks

  • Generalist and professional networks (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn...)
  • Specialized networks in your sector of activity

Define the professional objective you want to achieve with your network. Know exactly what you expect from the discussion and express it when you make contact.

Establish an action plan for your networking activities: work on your message, see how to make contact and prioritize your actions. Follow-up on your actions.

Update your online profiles if necessary: before soliciting your online contacts, it is preferable to check your own online presence and your personal footprint on search engines (Google, Facebook, Twitter...) making sure that they are positive for your career, or at least that they do not tarnish it.

Writing the message for your contacts

  • Perfect spelling/grammar
  • Customize each request
  • Be polite and courteous
  • Clearly explain your approach
  • Allow time for the caller to respond before contacting again (at least one week)
  • Contact again only once

Bring your network to life, keep in touch with your contacts by informing them of your current situation.

Encourage opportunities for 'real' encounters to develop your network and bring it life. Examples: NEOMA ALUMNI and Tribe club meetings, happy hour networking, conferences, association...

Serve your community: by doing a favor to acquaintances, you will show a positive image and others will be ready to do you a favor in due course, keep it in mind!
